What Detox Really Means (And Why You Don’t Need a Cleanse)
Every spring, the idea of a “detox” starts to show up everywhere.
Juice cleanses. Detox teas. 7-day resets that promise more energy, quick weight loss, and a fresh start.
And if you’re already feeling tired, stuck in your body, or frustrated with your progress… it can feel really tempting to try something, anything that promises a reset.
But here’s the truth I want you to understand:
You don’t need a detox. You dont need to spend hundreds of dollars on supplements, tea, green powders or whatever else some influencer is trying to sell you!
Your body is already detoxing for you EVERY SINGLE DAY!
Detoxification isn’t something you start… it’s something your body is constantly doing to keep you alive, balanced, and functioning.
What Detox Actually Means
Detoxification is your body’s natural process of identifying, breaking down, and eliminating waste and toxins. Surprise!
This happens through several key systems working together:
Your liver processes toxins and hormones
Your kidneys filter your blood and remove waste through urine
Your digestive system eliminates what your body doesn’t need
Your lymphatic system helps move waste out of tissues
When these systems are supported, your body knows exactly what to do. When these systems are overwhelmed, they still detox just at a slower rate.
Why Most Detoxes Don’t Work (And Can Make Things Worse)
The problem isn’t that your body needs help.
The problem is how we’re trying to help it.
Most popular detoxes:
Restrict calories (liquid for days, water only, only green veggies)
Remove key nutrients (especially protein, occasionally fats, something is always the villan)
Spike and crash blood sugar
Add stress to an already overwhelmed system
And for many women….this backfires.
If you’re already dealing with:

Hormonal imbalances
Weight loss resistance
Then extreme detox approaches can actually:
Increase cortisol (your stress hormone)
Slow your metabolism (especially is this something you do often)
Worsen cravings and energy crashes
